Matt Ridley's books, which include The Red Queen, Genome and The Rational Optimist, have sold over a million copies, been translated into 30 languages, been short-listed for nine major literary prizes and won several awards. His TED talk "When Ideas Have Sex" has been viewed more than two million times. After a DPhil in zoology from Oxford University, he became a journalist, writing for The Economist for many years. He has been a columnist for the Telegraph, the Wall Street Journal and The Times. He was elected to the UK House of Lords in February 2013.
